The absolutely OFFICIAL unofficial AFH ANTI-FAQ

Click the Barwench to go to the Jani's Tavern on Facebook, the new home of the PicPage.

Rules for posting on AFH?

NO. Here's why. You start with labelling threads OT. Then you have a FAQ. Then you have Done-to-Deaths on the Faq. Then you start labelling subdivisions and that goes into the FAQ as posting rules, and you end up with a newsgroup which is totally inaccessible to anyone who doesn't understand the [I], [F], [B], etc, code. And you end up with a small bunch of people going round in circles in their little gene pool.

No. No rules. We do very well without 'em. This is the only place that I know where there are no rules beyond common politeness and a willingness to accept that the other person has a point. If we can't regulate ourselves, we shouldn't be afh.

Jane Says...

Chatting and sparring with each other is all well and good, but the occasional serious discusion of the work of Robert Heinlein is appreciated.

SNIP YOU SLACKERS, SNIP! (or something to like that.)

More to come...

Who are these people??

Jane- Our conscience

OJIII- IIRC discoverer of the ohnosecond, consumer of fine scotch. Can carry on a pleasant conversation with half inebriated scifi fans in a crowded Irish bar on St. Patricks Day.

Bob- Voice of reason in the wilderness mostly, but capable of stirring the pot in a most Lazarusian fashion if not watched closely. Can no longer indulge in pizza and beer.

Pix- The Princess, with claws.

Jani- Barwench, Pacifist warrior, hmmm too complicated, but very cute!

NW- Mostly has done nothing of note except for being the originator of PPOR.

More to come someday...

FAQ

Much has been made of the lack of a FAQ for alt.fan.heinlein. Rather than argue the merits of one, I will include Frequently Asked Questions here. The answers are gleaned from the group.

OK, so here is a FAQ

In view of Lazarus Long's comment that pregnant women are a real miracle, this subject should always be considered on topic.

Was RAH a "superstitious old scut?"
No (only asked by one poster, but he repeats himself.)

Was RAH a misogynist?
No one agrees

Wasn't Starship Troopers the movie great?
Definite no. (From most of the group)

Don't you think this is off topic?
Sure, well, maybe. Let's put OT in the topic line.

What was your favorite Heinlein book?
No one agrees

Who was your favorite Heinlein character?
No one agrees

Do you think Heinlein wrote realistic female characters?
No one agrees

Did RAH believe in God?
Don't know, but there's lots of people who'll be happy to argue about it for a week or two. (GH)

Did Heinlein believe in gun control?
Run, Run for your lives! (GH)

There you have it, welcome to Freedom Hall! Kick the cat, (but she bites!), spit on the mat, (but don't let the barkeep catch you!) and don't call the master a superstitious old scut.

Current Favorite OT Post.

This is getting towards the FAQ we don't have < G > OK, here's my FWIW.

Content is superior to form; superior form is always subordinate to superior content except inasmuch as superior form supercedes superior content by superior form, in itself, superceding the innate content of superior content.

That hurt my head. And what's more, Wiz is going to throttle me for it...

PS it boils down to "you have to say something really clever to make sure everyone else ignores your typos" I think.
